TIP: On pre-ICS Android devices, remember to adjust your ringer and alert volume levels in your phone's sound settings.

NOTE: Android 5+ has replaced silent mode with priority mode.

NOTE: Android 4+ (ICS) does not allow the separation of ringer and alerts volumes. However, pre-Android 4 phones can still separate them in the phone's sound settings.

For an alternative solution on ICS, you can enable adjustment of the ringtones and set your alert ringtone to "silent" for a specific profile, such as sleep.
